TK Leads Shrewsbury Golfers in Faldo Series Event

The long weekend of the 5th of December saw the latest Faldo series event, hosted by Shrewsbury International School at the Banyan Golf Club in Hua Hin. 18 Shrewsbury golfers represented the school over several age groups, highlighting the high level of participation in the sport at Shrewsbury.

With nine schools taking part, the competition was hot, yet that did not seem to phase our young golfers who managed to take home several prizes. The Shrewsbury squad were the net winners overall by virtue of having the lowest average total, whilst Shrewsbury students also secured the longest drive (by Hunter in Year 7, on two separate occasions), and the closest to pin (Koko in Year 3). The incredible form of TK was an obvious highlight with the superstar golfer shooting 14 under par over three rounds to continue his reign as world number one in his age group.

Both Panghom in Year 9 and Alice in Year 8 continue their upward trend in competitions, playing the beautiful course better with every round. The two are definitely stars to watch for the future and credit must go to Head of Golf, Mr Mark Scrivener for facilitating and coaching all of the athletes - his attention to detail and focus has been second to none.

The level of competition was outstanding, and all schools exhibited a wonderful sense of community. What was particularly heartening was how our senior golfers would complete their round and immediately come back onto the course to support the younger members of the squad.

The weekend closed with a Charity lunch and fun round, led by Shrewsbury Principal, Chris Seal and sponsored by charity partner Action 4 Diabetes, as well as Siam PGA, and Steinway Thailand. The fun and team play of the Texas scramble format was highlighted when Year 1 Shrewsbury student Nathan holed a 10-foot birdie putt for his team! The event raised some additional funds for our charity partners and capped off a truly fantastic weekend of golf.
