The operation of Shrewsbury International School Bangkok is overseen by a Board of Governors which advises The Principal on the full breadth of the school programme.

This advisory board meets three times a year and brings together a wide range of local, regional and international experience in education, legal matters, finance, child protection and safety.

Two governors of Shrewsbury School UK sit on the advisory board, bringing their experience of school governorship in the UK context and ensuring that The School fully complies with the terms of the licensing arrangements.

The Executive Committee of The School meets monthly and is chaired by The School Proprietor. In this forum, representatives of the Board of Governors and The School’s Senior Management Team meet to ensure that The School’s operation is safe and secure and aligned with the priorities established in The School Development Plan. It has a role in setting short, medium and long term financial plans including the operational and capital development budgets.

SARAH CANNING-JONES - CHAIRPERSON

Currently serving as a legal consultant at the leading international law firm, Allen & Overy, in London, Ms Sarah Canning-Jones is an international corporate and commercial lawyer. She has strong ties to the Bangkok community after a long period of residence in the city during which her children attended Shrewsbury Riverside.

JOHN CLARK

A graduate of St Peter’s College Oxford, Mr John Clark has served as the Head of Department and Housemaster at Eton College and the Headmaster of Mvumi School in Tanzania. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, trustee of the Mvumi School Trust and Chairman of the Society of Schoolmasters and Schoolmistresses, UK (now Teaching Staff Trust).

CARLA HOWARTH

Managing Director of Global Training and Consultancy for the past 22 years, Mrs Carla Howarth, holds a first degree in Law, a Masters degree in Criminology and is a qualified barrister. A Senior Lecturer at the City University of Hong Kong, Mrs Howarth also serves as the Chair of the Rea Valley group of Riding for the Disabled.

SUCHADA LEESWADTRAKUL

Khun Suchada Leeswadtrakul serves as President of Sophonpanich’s family holding companies, including Asia Sermkij Co., Ltd. and Jatubhut Holding Co., Ltd. She is also a director of City Realty Co., Ltd. and Chatrium Hotels and Residences. She received a Master Degree in Business Administration from Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University.

CHALI SOPHONPANICH

Khun Chali Sophonpanich is currently president of City Realty Co., Ltd.. the owning company of Shrewsbury International School Riverside and City Campus. Khun Chali Sophonpanich is also the chairman of Asia Plus Group Holdings, and a director of Chatrium Hotels and Residences.

DR JIRAYUTH MAHATTANAKUL

Dr Jirayuth Mahattanakul has been Shrewsbury Riverside’s School Manager since the school's inception in 2003. A graduate of Imperial College London, Dr Mahattanakul also serves on the International Schools of Thailand (ISAT) board as Vice President and Membership and Operation Co-chair. Dr Mahattanakul was royally appointed Professor of Engineering in 2011 and was on the executive committee of the Engineering Institute of Thailand under the King’s Patronage.

DR. WATTANA MAHATTANAKUL

A world leader in complex spinal surgery, Dr. Wattana Mahattanakul has earned his MBBS and Neuroscience BSc degrees with first-class honours at the Faculty of Medicine, University of London, UK. Dr. Mahattanakul has completed a Spinal fellowships at James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough in the UK, and Vascular brain surgery Master degree at Macquarie University, in Sydney, Australia. He is currently a practising Neurosurgeon and Spine surgeon at Ramathibodi and Bumrungrad hospitals.

DR PARITA SUAPHAN

Earning her PhD in Comparative and International Education from Columbia University, New York. Dr Parita Suaphan is now an adjunct faculty member at the School of Global Study, Thammasat University. The co-founder of mobile application Bootcampdemy, Dr Suaphan, also serves as the CEO of technology company Gantik and Vice President of product development at Aimphan Press Co. Ltd.

DR KANOKWAN WONGWATANASIN

Holds the honour of the first person to receive a doctorate in an internet-related area, Dr Wongwatanasin is the co-founder of KSC Commercial Internet Co and the CEO of IP Payment Solution. In addition, Dr Wongwatanasin has served as Director of Kanchanaburi Sugar Mill, Director of Thai Sugar Trading, Co., Ltd., and Director of the Trade Association of Sugar Producers.

DAVID ROBERTS, B.COM, MBA

David Roberts is a Chartered Accountant and a founding Governor of Shrewsbury School Bangkok. David currently serves as an independent director of Asia Plus Group Holdings PCL. He was previously a Managing Director of Hoare Govett Asia. Before this, he was employed by Citibank and previously Gulf Oil Corporation. David was for several years a Council Member of the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong and a member of the Stock Exchange Listing Committee. He was also a member of the Securities and Futures Commission’s Compensation Fund. David has served on the board of one of Hong Kong’s major hospitals. David has held non-executive directorships on the boards of several fund management companies and publicly listed country funds.

TANIKA PANYARACHUN

Khun Tanika Panyarachun holds a Masters from The Harvard University Graduate School of Education. She is a well-renowned child and adolescent counsellor at ‘Little Sprouts Children's Centre’ in Bangkok and is an author whose work has been published in the Washington Post. Khun Tanika also provides consultation concerning mental health and child psychology for schools and non-profits.

SIRIPORN SOPHONPANICH

Khun Siriporn Sophonpanich is currently working at City Realty Co., Ltd. as the Assistant Vice President, overseeing the company’s design and construction projects. She received her Masters of Science in Urban Planning from Columbia University in the City of New York and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History of Art and Architecture from Brown University. Before moving back to Bangkok, she worked at a non-profit organisation in New York City.
