Members and coaching staff of Shrewsbury, Riverside’s Boys Junior Varsity football team are ecstatic after taking first prize for their stellar season, in which they did not drop a single game along the way.
The BISAC competition, which pits teams from around the city against each other in friendly but competitive contests, is a challenging trophy to win, given the quality football sides on display week-in, week out. However, Shrewsbury’s JV side has been firing on all cylinders from the opening whistle of every game.
Shrewsbury JV clinched the title after hard-fought victories against ISB and ICS in the pool games and another spirited performance in the tournament final against a much older Bangkok Pattana side 3-1. This was an impressive win and the culmination of several years of hard work in training and practice from both players and coaches. Head of P.E (whole school), and coach, Mr Ian Radcliffe was full of praise for his all-conquering footballers.
“We are very proud of these young men for their stellar season. They train hard and work well as a unit. Every time they get on the pitch, they communicate well and put in a great team performance. Perhaps the most pleasing factor is that we have some younger players in the side and therefore get to build on this success towards varsity level, so hopefully more medals and trophies await!” He said excitedly.
Despite the football season coming to an end, there are many more opportunities to watch Shrewsbury’s sports teams such as basketball compete in tournaments around the country and in Bangkok.
