This week at Shrewsbury has seen a large number of students test their skills to determine at what level they will be participating in both friendly matches, and competitively within a condensed, BISAC season 1.
The photo above is what 80 basketball hopefuls look like. What is most encouraging is that this was an under 13s trial and only some of the 150-plus athletes that will turn out during the week.
Head of Primary PE and Head Basketball coach Mr Joe Cahill was both surprised and delighted with how students have come in droves to compete for Shrewsbury.
“Basketball is certainly becoming more popular among students over the last couple of years. We had reasonably good results in BISAC fixtures last year, and we really want to build on that. Seeing this many students come out to try their luck is heartening, and I hope to see continued commitment throughout the season.”
With FOBISIA tournaments still on hold for the near future, there is hope that a meaningful programme of local inter-schools fixtures will be able to start in the coming weeks. We hope to be able to share news of these very soon.
