NET GAINS IN SINGAPORE

Singapore was the venue for the first-ever FOBISIA Netball tournament and Shrewsbury attended the competition as Thailand’s sole representatives. With Netball still in its infancy with regards to popularity in this part of the world, it took a huge commitment by staff and athletes to prepare for the tournament.

The girls repaid the commitment on the court, finishing 2nd in the plate competition.

Trip leader and P.E Teacher Ms Hannah Rawlinson was hugely impressed with how far the team has come in such a short period of time.

“Many of these girls had not even played netball until very recently. The vigour in which they picked up the sport is a testament to how hard Shrewsbury students work when given a challenge. We expect even bigger things in the next tournament, as this experience would have made them more determined.”

Elsewhere our golfers continued to impress in the latest ‘Faldo Series’ tournament in Hua Hin. Following up their victories in the recent Harrow Invitation golf tournament, Team Shrewsbury ‘Gold’ athletes TK and Vicky both finished 1st in their age group with TK finishing first overall despite still only being 12 years old! Both are on track for the world challenge event where the winners will be given access to European and Asian tour tournaments. Their performances also helped the golf team to finish 3rd overall.

Finally, some great news to come out of the pool. Our junior swim team finished 2nd overall in the Puppy Cup held at Bangkok Prep. Attended by schools from around the city, our under 8s finished in 1st overall in their age category, and provided the highlight for what was a great day’s competition. It seems we have some great swimmers coming through the ranks.
