TERM 1 REVIEW 2019-20

MATHS STUDENTS ARE LEAPS AHEAD

Several of our mathematics stars were in competition over the long term break, earning several prizes as well as gaining a chance to flex their mathematical muscles against and alongside some of the brightest young minds in Thailand and beyond!

Here in Thailand, a  young team of Shrewsbury students took part in the Kangaroo Math Thailand (KMT) 2019, earning second place overall. There were several individual prizes too, including a trio of Gold awards for Peerawat (Tun) Suphanrungsisiri, Kantaporn (Cookie) Danchaivijitr and Jirasita (Jita) Tohtubtiang. There was also a Silver for Akarat (Love) Mongkolrattanachart and a Merit for Benyapa (Pim Pim) Ongphiphadhanakul.

At the start of July two of our more senior mathematicians traveled to Trinity College, Melbourne to take part in the week long World Mathematics Championships. Sethavudh (Jamie)  Vongsurakrai won Gold medal in Solo Category, while Pittawas (Poom) Kijoran won Bronze medal in Knowledge Category for his all-round performance throughout the competition.

The pair qualified for the competition following their exceptional showing as part of the Shrewsbury's South East Asia Mathematics Competition (SEAMC) earlier this year; a competition which has helped to develop some of our brightest mathematical talents over the years, and where students are exposed to some particularly challenging beyond-curriculum material both during the competition and throughout the school activity programme that they use to prepare for it.
