TERM 3 REVIEW 2018-19

HIGHER EDUCATION TEAM HEAD STATESIDE

Each year our Principal and member of the Higher Education team head stateside to visit university admissions personnel and to strengthen our relationships with the best colleges and universities in the USA. With over a third of Shrewsbury graduates receiving offers from American Universities and Colleges, this trip is crucial to ensure the advice and guidance of our award winning higher education team is up to date when advising our Sixth Formers on University options that a right for them.

At the start of Term 3, Mr Chris Seal, Mr Stuart Markes (Director of Alumni Relations), and Ms Terri Overton (Associate Director of Higher Education, US) visited 13 prestigious colleges and universities on the West Coast, starting in Los Angeles and ending the trip in Washington.

Amongst the universities and colleges visited were world renowned institutions such as Stanford, University of California, Berkeley, Harvey Mudd, and the California Institute of Technology (CalTech). The team gained valuable insights into the application process and what kind of academic and extracurricular achievements these schools expect from applicants.

These trips are also an opportunity to meet with Shrewsbury Alumni who are already studying (or who have already completed studies) at these universities. They provide real world insights into each institution, and allow the team to understand what it’s really like to live and study there. In turn this helps them advise future applicants whether a particular institution is likely to meet their needs and expectations.

Head to our Instagram page where you can see the highlights saved by the team during their trip.
