TERM 3 REVIEW 2020-21

ONCE UPON A TIME

We are all familiar with various collections of fairytales. These traditional stories provided the foundation for Year 1's topic of 'Once Upon a Time', which sparked the children's interest for learning, retelling and innovating these well-known tales.

Students have investigated how some fairytales have changed over time. They have also challenging gender stereotypes within these well-known stories. Nuni in 1OM is pictured with her retelling of a famous tale, which she entitled 'Lily and the Beanstalk'.

Our class teachers were extremely impressed with the innovation shown by Year 1, and the confidence they showed in presenting their re-written fairy stories. The children also put their STEM skills into practice, by designing and building their own fairytale castles from recyclable materials.

The topic's grand finale saw all Year 1 classes come together on Zoom for a Fairytale Ball. The children dressed up as their favourite fairy story characters, and enjoyed lots of singing and dancing with Ms Young (Head of Music).
