MOVING FORWARD INTO CHINESE NEW YEAR

Students at City Campus spent weeks working hard and preparing for Chinese New Year celebrations, which culminated in a special Chinese New Year assembly on Thursday 11 February. The Year of the Ox. 

Our Mandarin Team tell us that those born in the year of the Ox are hard working and patient - and while none of our students were born under this zodiac, we think these virtues certainly apply to them too. 

While this year's celebrations were much smaller than planned because of Covid-19 restrictions, that certainly didn't dampen the spirits of our school community, who all dressed in amazing Chinese costume for the occasion. 

The Mandarin team held a Chinese New Year quiz and all the children got top marks. 

“Hands up if you know which lucky food to eat during Chinese New Year!?” – so asked our Head of Mandarin . . .the answer? It’s dumplings! (Jiaozi!)

Traditionally, their resemblance to the ancient Chinese ‘ingot’ – used for centuries as currency – means that dumplings are a symbol of prosperity...and if our lunchtime feast was anything to judge by, City Campus students should have been feeling very prosperous.
