TERM 1 REVIEW 2020-21

TAKING THE PLUNGE

What lives under the sea? Where are our biggest oceans? How can we look after our planet? Year 2 explored these questions and more during their topic of 'Life Below Water'.

After learning about ocean habitats across the world, the children rightfully began to address what they could do to protect our seas.

Much of the children's learning was also inspired by scenes and from Julia Donaldson's much-loved book The Snail and the Whale. The story follows the journey of a little snail who longs to see the world beyond the little rock he lives on.

On behalf of the year group, 2JB shared all their learning from their topic with the rest of the school, by leading the first class assembly of the year. The children performed songs, poetry and drama pieces, as well as sharing the 'Ocean Promises’ they had made to help keep our waters clean and safe.

Principal, Ms Dennison shared, "During their Life Below Water assembly, the children were such confident, professional and clear speakers; every word could be heard. A wonderful treat for our children, staff and parents to enjoy."

At Shrewsbury, we teach a topic-based curriculum to give intrigue and meaning to all subjects that the children study. Our teachers use real-life contexts to bring learning to life.
