BUDDING ENGINEERS WIN AWARDS

The D&T department hosted a prestigious prize-giving ceremony to recognise the achievements of our young designers. Almost 100 City Campus students entered the UK-based Primary Engineer® Young Leader Awards competition. Students were tasked with inventing a product to solve issues that we encounter in our everyday lives.

Parents, governors and other VIPs were invited to enjoy an exhibition of the children’s work, showcasing an array of inventions ranging from GPS-operated suitcases to a children’s scooter with attached CCTV. 

Entrants included students from members of City Campus’s alumni, who have gone on to take up their guaranteed places at the Senior School at Shrewsbury Riverside. 

During the ceremony, Ms Dennison welcomed guests and shared how impressed she had been with the innovation and commitment the children had shown. Ms Holland (Head of Design & Technology) went on to invite all the participants onto stage to collect their prizes. 

All the children’s entries were judged by a panel of UK-based experts, curated by Primary Engineer®. Students were awarded certificates across Pass, Merit and Distinction levels. 

The excitement was palpable as the 6 shortlisted finalists were announced, which included our youngest competitor at 5 years old. These students were selected by Primary Engineer®, with their designs recognised as those with exceptional creative problem-solving skills and the most persuasive design ideas. 

Three final winners were announced, which saw two Year 2 students and one Year 6 student presented with their medals and trophies. A special City Campus award was also given to a Year 3 student, chosen by the Design & Technology department for his outstanding contribution to the subject.
