TERM 3 REVIEW 2019-20


Year 5 have been developing their growth mindset and independent learning skills since the beginning of this year, and this did not stop as they transitioned to a period of home learning. 

Daily Zoom lessons allowed the students and teaching team to stay connected with one other. Year 5 used Conversation Circles to give children the opportunity to practice their English-speaking skills, share stories, worries, jokes, events occurring in the wider world and how they could become better human beings to help those in need.

Year 5 produced some fantastic work at home as part of their topic of ‘The Investigators’. The students showed great collaboration as they worked together as detectives to solve a CSI-style murder mystery. The class showcased their creativity through the many science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) challenges assigned to them in D&T. They also produced some innovative entries for the Primary EngineerⓇ Leaders Awards launched in June.

Students in Year 5 also relished the weekly Creativity Challenges set by Ms Georgia, the school’s Art intern. The outcomes of the task portrayed the wonderful imagination and originality of each student. These efforts were celebrated with our weekly ‘Star of the Week’ award. This accolade was also earned by pupils who showed great resilience in learning. 

Ms Kearnes, Year 5 Teacher said, “Year 5 adapted amazingly to their learning schedule and continued to use these skills to overcome any obstacles that they faced. Courage, resilience, and success were the values of the month that we celebrated while being at home. The children certainly encompassed all these values through their determination to succeed in new learning, reflect on mistakes and show courage during uncertain times.
