TERM 3 REVIEW 2019-20

MUSIC AT HOME

Music-making remained at the heart of the home, as our Music department took our Music curriculum online.

For our Early Years students, their home music lessons were all about singing and rhythm. The children joined in with Ms Bull (Music Teacher) with some new favourite songs, with tapping out and generally enjoying moving to a beat. Year 1 got acquainted with Beethoven and learned to enjoy music from different cultures and musical contexts. Year 2 performed various songs linked to their topic of ‘Flower Power’. Year 3-6 also got creative with their music skills, taking guidance from Ms Bull, Ms Klein and the wider Music teaching team at City Campus.

One musical highlight from home was the release of the Shrewsbury Virtual Choir - Sing a Rainbow project. Organised by Shrewsbury Hong Kong, this singing compilation saw contributions from all the Shrewsbury campuses in Bangkok, Hong Kong and the UK. across the world. It celebrates the central part that music plays in the school's ethos. City Campus was extremely proud of all its students who submitted a piece for this special Shrewsbury collaboration.

We were also delighted to hear from our friends at Ex Cathedra, who launched a series of interactive musical videos to keep us all singing at home. Watch SingMaker Playlist

For our many children who are learning instruments, they continued to show commitment and dedication to practicing at home. Students of piano teachers, Ms Irina Novokova and Khun May Kosoltrakul performed a selection of pieces they had been learning at home.

Another selection of young pianists learning with the school’s Musician in Residence, Ms Yeji Yoon, also performed their favourite pieces at home. The children’s recital will be broadcast soon. To be the first to watch it, make sure you have subscribed to the school’s YouTube channel
