TERM 3 REVIEW 2019-20


The school’s Design & Technology department was launched in August 2019, with specialist D&T teacher Katie Holland at the helm. Supported by Ms Georgia, Art Intern, the department has shone. In making the transition to home learning, the children have retained their sense of creativity and innovation that had been instilled in them during the year.

City Campus has focused heavily on sustainability this year, and the D&T and Art curriculum has complimented this well. Children have been tasked to design and create all sorts of purposeful items by upcycling materials they had at home. Creations included robots, magic wands, board games and fruit and vegetable flowers. Our Design Engineer Construct! students in Year 6 went deep into the world of coding, using new Vex Robotics UK software to map out virtual robot sequences. Linked to their Shakespeare topic, Year 6 also put their DEC skills into practice by designing and building models of the Globe Theatre in London. 

Wellbeing has remained a central theme for our students whilst they were learning at home. Ms Georgia’s creativity challenges have ensured that our students continued to express themselves at home, through artistic and imaginative outlets. 

The children also showed impressive level of proactivity from home, through their many entries for the Primary EngineerⓇ Leaders Awards. The UK-based competition challenged students from EY1-Year 6 to to answer the question, "If you were an engineer, what would you do?" To inspire their entries, City Campus students posed questions to a real-life engineer, before designing their own product and writing a letter to the competition judges to explain why their invention should win. 

Ms Holland and Ms Georgia also shared many ideas for the school’s ‘We Are Family’ series, which was designed to help families both within and beyond our school community to enjoy quality time at home together.
