TERM 2 REVIEW 2019-20

SURFING SCIENTIST STEALS THE SHOW

The school’s auditorium provided the perfect stage for science, as an expert physicist was invited in to give students some truly atomic performances.

Mr Ruben Meerman, also known as the Surfing Scientist, visited City Campus to show children from Early Years up to Year 6 just how awe-inspiring science can be.

Ruben dazzled students with safe but spectacular demonstrations of the effects of liquid nitrogen, hydrogen, oxygen and carbon dioxide, complete with smoke, ice and the odd bang!

Whilst being great fun for our students, these demonstrations at City Campus also inspire our children to get excited about science and how things work.

Vice Principal Ms Fiona Betts said, “Mr Meerman has an incredible ability to teach the theory behind the language of science, in a way that captivates and inspires. His deconstruction and reconstruction of the periodic table was extremely valuable for our students. He brought to life the reasons why chemicals react the way they do, and I was delighted to hear of some of our children wanting to pursue careers in science as a result of Mr Meerman’s visit.”
