TERM 1 REVIEW 2019-20

CHARITY BAKE SALE RAISES FUNDS

Year 3 took their Endangered Animals topic to the next level this term, by deciding to hold a bake sale to raise money for an international wildlife conservation charity.

Freeland Foundation Bangkok protects vulnerable people and wildlife from organised crime and corruption, whilst revitalising ecosystems and communities. Particularly relevant to Year 3’s topic is the foundations work on documenting tiger breeding in Thailand, and getting large food chains to pledge against the sale of shark fin soup.

Year 3 lined their tables with a wonderful selection of baked goods, many of which had been homemade by our young eco warriors. The children raised over 31,000 THB for Freeland Foundation Bangkok.

Ms Straw, Year 3 teacher shared, “I am so proud of all our Year 3 students. They worked hard to design posters to promote their sale, they baked and bought in an array of delicious-looking cakes and biscuits and they demonstrated their excellent maths skills through selling their goods and calculating change for our City Campus customers. The donations were gratefully received and will go to excellent use. Well done Year 3!”

A topic-based curriculum forms a key part of a Shrewsbury education. Subject areas are linked to a half-termly topic, to create relevant and immersive learning experiences for our students.
