TERM 1 REVIEW 2019-20

AUTHOR BRINGS SEA AND SNOW TO AUDITORIUM

The library team was delighted to host children’s author Steven Swinburne. Along with his wife Heather, Steven visited City Campus to tell students, parents and guests all about his worldwide adventures and how they inspire his writing.

Mr Swinburne loves to travel and observe nature and wildlife. His writing also has a special focus on environmental awareness and sustainability. We were treated to photos of Steven’s worldwide discoveries, including a caterpillar’s journey from cocoon to butterfly, and baby sea turtles venturing from sand to sea.

We were also lucky enough to be giving a virtual tour of Steven’s home in Vermont, Canada. Mr Swinburne showed us the seasonal rises and falls of the river in his garden, and the snow drifts that surround his home in the winter. We are keen to ensure that the wildlife on our own campus inspires our children’s writing, whether it be the leafy trees across the site, our fish pond or the garden in the Early Years Hub.

The success of Mr Swinburne’s visit was evidenced by a long queue of parents at the author's subsequent book signing.
