City Campus shortlisted for International School Awards 2021.

Following the launch of it’s unique, primary-focussed Design & Technology curriculum in 2019, City Campus has been nominated for the International School Awards 2021.

The school is shortlisted for the category ‘Initiative to support students as future-thinking innovators’, in recognition of the school’s belief that age is no object when it comes to the skills our children need in this increasingly digital age.

City Campus was selected from over 250 applications this year, from international schools in 62 countries.

The judges considered the range of applications to be exceptional; particularly so considering the challenges for schools throughout 2020.

To develop its future thinkers, City Campus students aged 5-11 years old (Years 1-6) use a diverse range of robotics and coding software in their D&T studies, alongside computer aided design (CAD) software for computer-aided manufacture (CAM) such as 3D printing.

Students undertake a breadth of technologically advanced projects including e-textiles and design challenges focusing on innovative and futuristic design.

City Campus is also the first school in Thailand, and the first primary school in the world to deliver the accredited Design Engineer Construct! (DEC) programme.

Traditionally offered in the UK for secondary school-aged pupils, DEC at City Campus sees children aged 5-11 learn the principles of architecture and engineering.

Following the shortlisting announcement, the school’s Head of Design & Technology Ms Holland shared, “We are extremely proud to offer an advanced and innovative D&T provision to our primary-aged students.

The CAD, coding & programming, engineering, architectural and design skills that our students are learning are setting them up to be the future thinking innovators that the world needs, and we are delighted that this has been recognised.

Ms Dennison, Principal, said, “We are thrilled that Shrewsbury City Campus has been nominated for the International School Awards 2021. This is an amazing achievement.

The world is changing at a superfast pace and  beyond anyone’s predictions; to be shortlisted for the category ‘Initiative to support students as future-thinking innovators’ makes me feel hopeful that our future is in safe hands.

Our students and indeed our staff have real passion, enthusiasm and ‘open’ creative minds;  I am thrilled that this has been acknowledged by the Awards panel.

The overall winners of the International School Awards 2021 will be announced at a virtual ceremony streamed from the UK on Monday 18th January.
