Visits from international sports stars, Gymnastics Centre of Excellence opens, and swimming galas make waves.

Report by the PE & Aquatics team, City Campus

It has been a fantastic start and a great year for the PE Team and all the pupils at City Campus. With so many achievements and events this year, the following are just some of the highlights of our founding year:

Term 1 began with a visit and a cricket coaching session led by the former England Cricket Captain – Mr Mike Gatting! Mr Gatting worked with the children from Years 2, 3, 4 and 5 to develop and improve their basic understanding of this traditional English game.

Later in the year, we were visited by Mr Ikenna Nwankwo, former NBA/LA Lakers player and founder of Top Flight Bangkok. Mr Nwankwo and his team led exciting high-energy basketball sessions for our pupils in Years 1, 2 and 3. We were also very lucky to have a visit from Mr Paradorn Srichaphan, former number-one tennis star in Thailand, now based at PJ Tennis Academy. We are pleased to say that both Mr Ikenna and Mr Paradon are now closely involved with City Campu's school’s 'You-Time' programme, which will help all our pupils improve their extracurricular physical education and most importantly, further increase their enjoyment of sport.

In Term 2, we were very proud to open our incredible gymnastics facilities to our pupils. We currently have professional coaches from an experienced gymnastics club leading our You-Time activities twice a week. As the school continues to grow, we plan to really develop our pupils’ ability in gymnastics with our outstanding facilities and resources. We look forward to hosting various gymnastics competitions in the years to come.

We were delighted to host the annual BISAC swimming event in the Aquatics Centre at City Campus. Lots of planning and preparation went into this competition and it was a huge success. Almost 200 children from various international schools took part, and comments from parents and guests showed us how well the event was organised and how exciting it was for the children. City Campus also held its founding House Swimming Gala for our Key Stage 1 and 2 children.

In the final term, we held three Sports Days, all of which were fun and competitive. Early Years 2 were first, followed by Years 1 and 2 and for the final Sports Day, Years 3, 4 and 5 worked together representing and winning points for their House Teams. We really appreciated the attendance from the parents of City Campus, whose support made each event such a happy and fun experience for everyone.

It has been a really fun and successful sporting year at City Campus. We have so much more to look forward to, so expect next year to be even better!
