UK ENGINEER INSPIRES STUDENTS

City Campus draws on professional expertise for the Primary EngineerⓇ Leaders Award.

Meet Emma Knowles, a British engineer who has been working with City Campus students to inspire their entries for the Primary EngineerⓇ Young Leaders Awards.

As part of the competition, students have connected with real-life industry professionals to seek inspiration for their design entries.

City Campus students were invited to pose their engineering questions to Emma, to help them with the designs they have been working on for the competition.

Emma studied Chemical Engineering at the University of Manchester. She told us, "I’ve always been interested in how things work! I enjoyed chemistry and maths in school. I wanted to do something applied rather than theoretical so I chose to study engineering."

During her career, Emma has worked at Proctor & Gamble as a process engineer, setting up Gucci, D&G and Hugo Boss perfumes to run on the manufacturing lines. She also managed the construction of a factory for P&G laundry products in London.

Emma firmly believes in the power of problem-solving, teamwork and motivation. Now, Emma is the Engineering Manager at a manufacturing company in Cincinnati, USA. She manages a team of engineers, showing her strengths in her people skills as well as her engineering expertise.

Ms Holland, the school's Head of Design & Technology, explains more about the competition here:
