READING AROUND THE WORLD

World Book Day was extended at City Campus into an entire week long event of literary activities, culminating in a fantastic celebration of creativity for 'Fully Booked: Read Around the World'.

A world of literature, a universe of adventure: this week, while international travel remains restricted, we brought far-flung places right here to City Campus and allowed our children to continue to explore new destinations through words with an extension of World Book Day. This week, we celebrated 'Fully Booked: Read Around the World'

World Book Day, which this year took place internationally on Thursday 4 March, was extended and upgraded into an entire week of activities and events. ‘Fully Booked: Read around the World’ was created by our dedicated library team in order to continue to inspire and nurture a love of literature in our children - as well as remind them about an entire world of exploration through story and books. A special ‘Reading Passport’ was created, with the purpose of logging reading activities by our students from authors and stories based in different countries…

…and talking of different countries; students participated in several Zoom sessions with renowned New Zealand author and story-teller Andy Wright. He video called our students and hosted interactive story-based activities from a Mauri perspective.

The end of ‘Fully Booked’ saw our students celebrate their favourite character through costume. Children used their creativity and design skills to create a range of wonderful and elaborate attire and we held a bright and colourful "Book Week Costume Parade" around the campus. Reading and literature is an important part of the core curriculum at Shrewsbury and we strive to make it fun, engaging and memorable.
