Upper Senior School Students Gain Valuable Insights into Legal Careers at Pathways into Law Workshop

Recently, we wrote about our recent governors’ visit, where we had the pleasure of connecting with our governors in-person for a series of meetings and workshops. One of the key highlights for our Shrewsbury Bangkok Riverside campus was a workshop with Upper Senior School students who have shown a keen interest in pursuing a career in law.

During the session, Sarah Canning-Jones, Carla Howarth, Gráinne Walters, and alum Richard – Class of 2017, all of whom work in law and spoke about their own journeys into the profession and the unique pathways and challenges it took to get them to where they are today. Students had the opportunity to ask questions and hear from our accomplished stakeholders to help them decide whether a career in law is right for them.

Kitty, one of our students who attended the workshop, reflected on the session: “During the Pathways into Law workshop, we received valuable insights from a variety of perspectives, all shaped by different experiences. This was invaluable as it allowed us to develop a deeper understanding of what a career in law entails and what to consider when choosing our paths.” Kitty found the advice particularly helpful when the governors emphasised the importance of ensuring that a pure law course is what you truly want to pursue. They also suggested considering degrees that combine law with other subjects, such as Law with History. Kitty shared, “I found this particularly helpful, as I am still uncertain about which career I would like to pursue, and an additional subject might be the best path forward for me.”

Kitty also mentioned that, “It was also incredibly inspiring to hear about the most rewarding aspects of a legal career, from the satisfaction of a successful compromise to the experience of mentoring others,” she said. “One key point that has stayed with me is the emphasis on hard work and its never-ending delivery of success – a valuable sentiment as I begin a new stage of my academic journey.”

The Pathways into Law workshop provided our students with invaluable insights into the legal profession and highlighted the different pathways students may want to consider, while emphasising the value of combining law with other subjects for a broader perspective. We are grateful for the opportunity to engage with such inspiring professionals and look forward to continuing to support our students as they explore their future career options.
