Shrewsbury International School Bangkok Riverside recently marked Riverside Book Day with a vibrant programme of activities designed to celebrate reading and bring the school community together in anticipation of World Book Day.

A highlight of the week was a special visit from renowned author and illustrator Chris Haughton. During interactive sessions with students, he shared stories from his books, spoke about his creative process, and led workshops that offered a behind-the-scenes look at how stories and illustrations come to life. The visit concluded with a book-signing event that was loved by both students and parents.

We were also delighted to welcome author, presenter, and environmental journalist Sarah Roberts, author of Somebody Swallowed Stanley and a shark expert from the Netflix series All the Sharks. Sarah shared her books and her deep passion for the natural world, captivating students with fascinating insights into marine life and environmental storytelling. She also encouraged them to imagine the many ‘wild’ careers they might one day pursue. It was a truly inspirational visit, leaving students curious, motivated, and with plenty to think about.

Throughout the week, we also celebrated the 10th anniversary of our annual Book Swap, an initiative first introduced in 2016 to encourage a culture of reading and sharing within the community. Students, parents and staff were invited to exchange pre-loved books at the Book Swap table, with more than 500 books exchanged over the week.

Year 4 students also hosted Reading Café sessions with parents, proudly sharing their book reports and cover illustrations while celebrating reading as a meaningful experience to enjoy together.

The week concluded with the much-anticipated Riverside Book Day costume celebration, as students dressed as their favourite literary characters, filling the campus with creativity while celebrating a shared love of reading across the school community.
