article Riverside Senior SHR ArticleShrewsbury International School Bangkok Riverside recently hosted its annual Year 9 Pathways Event, an informative and engaging session designed to guide students and parents through the transition to IGCSE and beyond. Held under the Senior School four-year programme at Shrewsbury International School Bangkok Riverside, this event plays a crucial role in helping Year 9 students make informed decisions about their academic journey, ensuring they are well-prepared for future success.
The event began with a warm welcome from Senior Principal Sonia Papps, who emphasised the importance of the Year 9 curriculum in laying a strong foundation for IGCSE and A-Level studies. She advised students to choose subjects they both enjoy and excel in while avoiding early specialisation. “GCSE subject selection is a significant step, as it shapes the academic experience for the next four years in Sixth Form and beyond,” Mrs Papps explained.
Insightful Presentations, Expert Guidance and Interactive Sessions
A series of informative presentations provided valuable insights into the transition through Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11, IGCSE) and Key Stage 5 (Years 12 and 13, A-Levels).
Assistant Principal Laura Gracia outlined the academic structure and subject options available at Shrewsbury, including the Higher Project Qualification (HPQ), which offers students an opportunity for independent research and skill development. The event highlighted core subjects such as Mathematics, English, and Science, along with a diverse selection of electives, including Business studies, Computer studies, and Languages.
Head of Year 9, Benjamin Fousset, encouraged students and parents to consider long-term academic and career aspirations, discussing how the future of work is evolving and the skills that will be in demand in the next decade.
With the deadline for subject selections set for March 1st, students were encouraged to take time to reflect on their strengths, interests, and goals before finalising their choices.
One of the key highlights of the event was the opportunity for students and parents to engage in discussions with teachers at the sixth form at Shrewsbury. These sessions allowed students to ask specific questions about their subject choices, strengths, and career aspirations, ensuring they felt confident in their decisions.
The Year 9 Pathways Event at Shrewsbury International School Bangkok Riverside proved to be an invaluable experience for students and parents alike.
