Mathematics is the flagship subject of the modern world. All of our lives are shaped by data, artificial intelligence and rapid technological change. We cannot predict the careers our students will one day pursue so we ensure that they have the fluency, reasoning and deep conceptual understanding needed to thrive with whatever challenges they may encounter in the future. At Shrewsbury International School Bangkok City Campus, we are proud that mathematics is not just a subject: it is a mindset, a language and a creative tool that empowers our learners to shape the future.
Our students demonstrate a genuine passion for Maths, often making connections to life beyond the classroom—from discussing the stock market to analysing patterns they observe in the weather and world around them. This curiosity drives their learning across STEAM subjects. In Science and Design Technology, for example, they apply mathematical knowledge to propose innovative solutions to real human challenges, such as designing new homes for the future. Mathematics sits at the heart of coding, robotics and digital innovation, and our students confidently draw upon their mathematical fluency in coding competitions, robotics challenges and ambitious DT projects—many of which form part of our rich and diverse You-Time programme.

In lessons, we emphasise meaningful, real-world mathematics. Inquiry-based learning encourages students to work collaboratively on tasks with authentic applications. Once they have mastered the core mechanics of a topic, they move into creative problem-solving—applying, adapting and extending their understanding. Open-ended challenges require imagination, resilience and originality. From Early Years children subitising and partitioning numbers in diverse ways, to Year 6 students tackling advanced ratio and proportional reasoning, inquiry and oracy remain central, helping our learners articulate, question and refine their thinking.

When our students graduate from Shrewsbury International School Bangkok Riverside, they consistently perform at the highest level. In Year 6, they excel in the International Junior Maths Challenge, competing successfully against Year 7 and Year 8 students, and they represented our school with distinction at the FOBISIA International Mathematics Competition in Shanghai. Eager to seek out new opportunities for our students, even our youngest learners are gaining early exposure to mathematical excitement: this year, our Year 2 pupils took part in Maths Rocks events, sparking imagination and sowing the seeds of future passion. These strong foundations inspire many to pursue Maths and STEAM subjects at A Level, where they continue to achieve exceptional results.
At Shrewsbury International School Bangkok City Campus, mathematics is a gateway to innovation, creativity and limitless possibility. Through inspiring teaching, real-world relevance and a culture of high aspiration, we prepare every learner not just to understand mathematics, but to use it to shape the world they will inherit.
