Strength In the Heart
SHC Principal's BlogOur school value focus last month was Courage — a quality we explore through assemblies, lessons and daily interactions.
For young children, courage can feel like a big and abstract idea. In our English lessons, our teachers helped the children explore the word more closely by breaking it down: ‘cour’ meaning heart, and ‘-age’ as a suffix referring to a state or quality. Together, courage means having strength in your heart — a definition that helps make the concept both accessible and meaningful.

We see this strength demonstrated every day, often in the smallest moments. When children try something new despite uncertainty, ask for help when they feel stuck, or tell the truth even when it is difficult, they are showing genuine courage. These quiet, everyday actions are just as important as the more visible ones.
A wonderful example of this was our recent Year 1 role-play protest against deforestation. Through this learning experience, children were encouraged to find their voice and stand up for what is right, developing an early understanding of their role as responsible global citizens.

At Shrewsbury Bangkok City Campus, we are committed to supporting our children to act with courage, integrity and heart, and to recognise that even the smallest actions can make a meaningful difference. In doing so, we are shaping not only confident learners, but compassionate young people who will carry these values forward as they help shape the future.
