SPLENDID EXPERIENCE FOR DRAMA STUDENTS

The renowned UK theatre company ‘Splendid Productions’ visited Shrewsbury as part of their annual SE Asia tour at the start of Term 3. Our students, plus students from visiting schools – Bangkok Patana, Lanna International and St Andrews - took part in workshops led by the Splendid practitioners.

Year 10 students explored the performance techniques of Bertolt Brecht and created some really thoughtful and thought-provoking political pieces of Drama focusing in particular on vocal and physical skills and techniques.

Towards the end of the visit, students enjoyed a very special opportunity to watch Splendid perform their touring production this year – the Greek trilogy of tragedies, ‘Oresteia’. It was an hour of high quality, creative and funny theatre and a great learning experience for students. They have already been talking about how they have been inspired by the visit and how they will be incorporating their new learning and ideas into the devised pieces that form part of their assessed coursework.
