Shrewsbury, Riverside will add four new members of staff to our P.E Department who will work in both the Junior and Senior school for 2020/21. They bring with them a range of skills and talents that are sure to benefit our student’s physical and mental well-being.
First up is Mr Alun Morris, a semi-professional footballer who will be working with Mr Simon Murgatroyd in his new role as Head of Football. Mr Morris (pictured second from left) gained his qualifications at the well-respected University of Durham, before eventually becoming Head of House and Director of Football at Oswestry School. Also a holder of a UEFA B coaches licence, we are expecting our football players to benefit hugely from his presence and instruction. With many fixtures and tournaments on the horizon, it will be worth watching the progression of these athletes.
Ms Hannah Atkinson (far right) joins us from Newcastle. A keen Netballer, Ms Atkinson is excited to meet some of the players that began to blaze a trail in the last academic year by competing for the first time in the FOBISIA tournament in Singapore. Having travelled extensively to far-flung places such as Madagascar(!!), she is thrilled to get the opportunity to visit the surrounding countries and Thailand itself.
Next is Mr Joe Emsley (far left), a fitness die-hard, adventure racer and nutrition enthusiast. Likely to bring a passion for a healthy lifestyle into the classroom, Mr Emsley joins Riverside from well-regarded All Hallows Prep School in Somerset. Head of boys’ sport at All Hallows, Mr Emsley enjoys a range of competitive sports himself including rugby, squash and cricket. With a passion for music, students can also expect some entertaining lessons this year!
Finally, we have Ms Victoria Vetesse (second from left), who will be a Primary Sport specialist joining Riverside from Saint Christina's Preparatory School in London. Working alongside Mr Joe Cahill who this year takes the lead for Junior School P.E., Ms Vetesse is another Netball fanatic but enjoys competing in all types of sporting endeavours. With a particular passion for getting students involved in extracurricular activities and sports clubs, she is keen to encourage more Shrewsbury students than ever to get involved in You-Time and weekend sport.
All four of our Shrewsbury P.E staff are delighted to be here after a long journey and raring to get to work. We look forward to watching them progress.
