Students at Shrewsbury International School Bangkok Riverside are celebrating a truly outstanding set of GCSE and A level exam results, securing their futures at the best universities around the world.

Of 1,162 GCSE examinations taken, 74% scored A*/A, with 48% scoring the very top A* grade. Over one quarter of all students earned straight A*/A grades, 18 students finishing with 10 or more A*s, and 6 students achieving a clean sweep of straight A* grades.

At A level, the results are more impressive still. A record 76% of the A level entries were awarded A*/A, with 45% A*s and nearly 60% of the entire cohort achieving straight A*/A grades.

Fourteen students from the Class of 2020 head to world-leading universities with straight A* grades, whilst 98% A*-C grades across the 360+ exams taken represents outstanding achievement for the entire cohort.

For Benya (Benny) Charumilind, Boonyavee (Prin) Wongwisetsuk, and Keodeo (Deva) Lokitiyakul, straight A* grades lead to medical degrees here in Thailand at Chiang Mai, Chulalongkorn and Mahidol Ramathibodi. They are amongst a group of 13 students who achieved offers to top medical programmes this year; an increasingly popular choice for Shrewsbury students, and one of the areas where the award-winning Higher Education team offers particular support.

With their straight A* grades, seven students head to top-ranking London universities, Imperial, LSE (3) and UCL (3), whilst 3A* and 1A take Head Girl, Tara, to the University of Cambridge. Choosing Stanford over Oxford, Music Scholar Karuna will be joined at top US universities by straight A* performers Doeia (Derya) Lokitiyakul (UPenn), Chavin (Kris) Udomwongsa (Dartmouth), and Patorn Hanchaikul (Cornell), who hopes to continue his incredible rise through the world tennis rankings as a member of the NCAA Division 1 College team. With his 4A* grades Head Boy, Kazuki, becomes the first Shrewsbury student to attend world-famous Ivy League university, Princeton.

Whilst some students have understandably chosen to defer the start of their university career until 2021, the majority will soon be experiencing university life in America, the UK, Thailand, Japan, China and Australia. These journeys have been supported by Shrewsbury’s outstanding teaching professionals and expert Higher Education Team, which grows in size and expertise again this August with the addition of a second US university specialist, and taking the team to five full time advisors.

“These results rightly confirm Shrewsbury’s position as Thailand’s leading international school, and represent a justified reward for our truly exceptional students”, comments Riverside Principal, Chris Seal.

“They have demonstrated remarkable resilience and dedication throughout their GCSE and A level studies, and especially throughout the last few months, which have been particularly challenging for students across the World. For Shrewsbury’s Class of 2020, the results are again the currency which lead them to a quite extraordinary list of university destinations. I know these fine young scholars are not only equipped to succeed academically at these great institutions, but to flourish there. They should be proud of their achievements, just as the whole community is proud of them”
