University Visits: Exploring New Courses and Approaches to Education

Imperial College London introduced multidisciplinary courses in Economics and Data Science Finance. The Economics course combines economic theory with data science and machine learning, ideal for careers in financial analysis and policy-making. The Data Science Finance programme merges quantitative finance with data science techniques, preparing students for roles in fintech and investment management.
UCL’s School of Management highlighted its International Management programme, focusing on cross-cultural leadership, global marketing, and international supply chains. Students gain practical experience through internships and collaborative projects, equipping them to manage businesses in a global context.
University College Dublin’s Professor Simpson, from the Biomedical Faculty, gave a talk on advancements in biomedical research, particularly in biochemical diseases and treatments. The interactive session provided valuable insights into cutting-edge techniques in biomedicine, ideal for students interested in medical and research careers.
University of Warwick’s School of Management showcased its leadership and strategy-focused business programmes. Emphasising real-world applications, Warwick’s courses develop strategic thinking and leadership skills through case studies, internships, and interactions with industry leaders.
Mahidol International University: Dr Julie, Dean of the Medical School and parent of alumna Pin – Class of 2023, offered a unique medical education approach with sensory deprivation exercises aimed at developing empathy and emotional intelligence in students. The programme improves communication skills and teamwork, while preparing students for the Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) process used in medical admissions.
This was a valuable opportunity for our students to learn about the unique courses offered by universities and understand what can help them stand out when applying. As Year 12 students begin to explore their future options, we are confident that with workshops like these and our ongoing Higher Education support system, we will continue to guide students towards courses that inspire them.
