An Official Kick-off for Shrewsbury Bangkok Riverside’s House Activities 2024-2025
Exceptional People Riverside Junior Riverside SeniorAt Shrewsbury International School Bangkok, Riverside, our House system is more than just earning house points—it’s the beating heart of our school community. Each year, students and staff alike eagerly anticipate the beginning of the House activities, and this academic year is no different.
Our first house gatherings mark the start of a dynamic programme designed to foster a sense of belonging, promote healthy competition, and reinforce the values that make Shrewsbury Bangkok Riverside such a special place to learn and a place where students can flourish.
“I’m feeling a real buzz about the upcoming year of house events! With so many new and exciting activities like karaoke, Just Dance, Rube Goldberg challenges, game shows and all our original events too, there’s so much fun in store. We have an incredible group of Y12 House Captains who are going to be leading the way. I’m especially looking forward to seeing everyone connect across different years—it’s going to be an incredible year of bonding and unforgettable memories.” shares Colette Shearer, Head of Student Leadership.
Deeply ingrained in the school’s culture, the House system at Shrewsbury Bangkok Riverside offers students the chance to connect across year groups, collaborate towards shared objectives, and cultivate leadership skills. The system encourages students to take pride in their House’s achievements, whether they are excelling in academic challenges, sporting competitions, or creative endeavours. It consists of six Houses: King, Mandela, Williams, Malala, Schweitzer, and Teresa.
Through events that challenge both the mind and body, the House system ensures that every student has the opportunity to shine. The House system fosters a holistic approach to education, balancing academic excellence with personal development. The sense of identity and belonging that comes from being part of a house plays a crucial role in each student’s journey at Shrewsbury Bangkok Riverside.
Students will get to participate in a variety of activities designed to test their skills, creativity, and teamwork. From athletic challenges to academic quizzes and creative showcases, the house events give students numerous opportunities to explore their passions.
Staff members will be there every step of the way, guiding and supporting their Houses, while encouraging students to push their boundaries and achieve their best.
“We are excited for all the house events lined up this year! We can’t wait to see our students showcase their talents in the Talent Show, Big Sing, General Knowledge Quiz, Spelling Bee, Public Speaking Slam, and Quick Draw competitions. We encourage all children to participate for a chance to represent their house and make it a memorable year. This year, we’re also delighted to invite the parents of all the finalists in each competition to join us and celebrate their achievements. Let’s make it a fantastic year for our houses!” Colin Ayliffe, Junior School House Coordinator
As we move forward into the new academic year, we encourage all students and parents to fully engage with upcoming House activities. Whether cheering from the sidelines, volunteering at events, or participating directly in competitions, every member of our community has a role to play in making this year’s House programme a success.
You can keep up to date with which house is in the lead by checking the points on House leader boards or Epraise; house points will be announced in assemblies for the Junior School. We encourage students, parents, and staff to embrace the House system and take advantage of its outstanding opportunities.
