Teacher’s Stories

With 25 years of experience as an Early Years and Primary educator, Catherine Okill has spent the last decade leading and developing the Early Years programme at Shrewsbury Bangkok.

I joined Shrewsbury directly from the UK 11 years ago. I am responsible for the Senior School staff development and, luckily, I get to work with a range of fantastic teachers and leaders from across the whole school.

I joined Shrewsbury Bangkok Riverside seven years ago, having previously led English departments in the UK. I have enjoyed leading a high-performing English team here, and over the past four years, my work on the school’s oracy project has been one of the most rewarding and meaningful aspects of my time at Shrewsbury.

Throughout my 18 years of teaching, I have worked in Thai departments at leading international schools and universities in Thailand. Shrewsbury has given me the opportunity to further develop my expertise in curriculum design and create the TAL programme that meets the diverse needs of learners. Seeing students flourish both academically and in their understanding of Thai language and culture has been particularly rewarding.

Since joining Shrewsbury Bangkok Riverside four years ago, I have had the pleasure of leading Student Leadership. Establishing the Student Parliament and creating opportunities for students to have a genuine voice in shaping our school has been one of the most rewarding parts of my role. Working with such incredible young people and supporting them as they turn their ideas into reality has been a privilege, and I am continually inspired by their passion, creativity, and desire to make our school community even better.
