We are delighted to introduce Aki Baismuthr, the new Chair of the Shrewsbury Parents (SP) Committee. Aki and her family have been a central part of our community for over a decade, with her eldest daughter joining in 2013. A native of Japan, Aki has lived in Thailand for more than 18 years with her Thai husband and is now the proud parent of two daughters in Years 8 and 11. She has been an active volunteer, serving as a Class Representative for both her daughters’ classes from EY1 through to Year 6. Motivated to become more involved, she soon began supporting snack sales, which led her to join the committee.
Aki’s journey with the Parents Committee began at Years 1 and 2 Fun Fair, where the students’ joy left a strong impression on her. The impression motivated her to become more involved, she soon began supporting snack sales and became more involved, leading her to join the committee.
The Vision and Goals
As Chairperson, Aki is passionate about making the committee and its work more visible to the entire school community. She shares her vision: “I want everyone to know what the Shrewsbury Parents Committee is, what we do, and how we do it. That’s because building a quality child is a shared responsibility, it’s not just the school, but the parents and community too.”
The SP team will work to make school community bonding closer. The committee acts as both a voice for parents and a vital bridge between families and the school. Throughout the year, the SP will continue to organise a variety of events, from cultural celebrations and fundraising activities to student snack sales and the introduction of new SP merchandise. The committee’s work supports the children’s learning and enjoyment at school.
A Message to Fellow Parents
Above all, Aki wants to make it clear that the Parents Committee is open and accessible to everyone. “We welcome every parent to get involved and make a positive contribution to our community. Even small contributions of your time or ideas can help.”
“Together, we can enhance our community and create meaningful experiences for every student.” Aki said.
