Alumni article Exceptional People Our Spotlight SHR ArticleShrewsbury International School Bangkok Riverside takes pride in celebrating the remarkable achievements of its alumni. One such inspiring figure is Ithichai “Win” Poolvaraluck, a young entrepreneur who has carved his own path to success through hard work, resilience, and visionary leadership.
Building Success from the Ground Up
Win, Class of 2010, now the CEO of Lockbox Group Co., Ltd, reflects on his journey, emphasising that his accomplishments are not the result of luck but of sheer determination and perseverance.
His career began with a humble salary of just 15,000 Baht after graduating from England. However, he quickly turned his ambitions into reality by founding his own firm, Lockbox, with nothing more than a passion for business and the willingness to take calculated risks. Today, that very venture has grown exponentially, now valued at approximately 450 million Baht.
Taking Risks and Seizing Opportunities
Win’s entrepreneurial spirit didn’t stop there. At the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, he opened a resort in Koh Samui at a time when the island was completely closed to visitors. Despite the odds, his strategic approach ensured that the resort broke even within just two months. Hyatt Regency Koh Samui has turned out to be one of the most exciting new properties on the paradise island. His ability to identify opportunities, even in challenging circumstances, has been a defining characteristic of his career.
As the Thai stock market faces difficulties, Win has once again stepped up, taking over Winning Solutions Public Co. Ltd. He sees potential where others see obstacles, a mindset that continues to drive his success.
Shrewsbury’s Role in Shaping Leaders
Reflecting on his time at Shrewsbury, Win credits the school for instilling in him the values of leadership, problem-solving, and resilience. He particularly enjoyed Design & Technology, which sparked his creativity and passion for innovation.
The combination of rigorous academics and hands-on projects helped him develop not only intellectual excellence but also real-world skills that have shaped his business acumen.
The Mindset of a Leader
For Win, leadership is about surrounding himself with the right people and truly listening to them.
“You can be the president, chairman, or CEO, but you need to listen, think, and analyze,” he explains.
His admiration for successful business figures, such as Bill Heinecke, has further fueled his drive to build something meaningful.
A Lifelong Journey of Growth
Win believes that success is not defined by the first 30 years of life but by the legacy one leaves behind. “What people remember you for when you are 80 or 90—that is your real journey.” His advice to aspiring entrepreneurs and students is simple yet profound: stay positive, never give up, and always have fun.
Win’s journey is a testament to the power of determination, adaptability, and the courage to take risks. As a proud alumnus of Shrewsbury International School Bangkok Riverside, his story serves as an inspiration to future generations of leaders and innovators.
