Meet the HQP Team 2026-27

Hanqing Bilingual Pathway HQP Highlights Our Spotlight SHC Article SHC Story SHC Teacher

A Team Built on Expertise, Experience, and a Shared Belief in Bilingual Learning

The Hanqing Bilingual Pathway (HQP) is part of Shrewsbury International School Bangkok City Campus — one school offering two distinct pathways. Alongside the school’s established international stream, HQP provides a genuinely bilingual Chinese-English route through Early Years and into primary, all within the same campus, community, and standards of excellence. Families choosing HQP join the full Shrewsbury community while their children follow a pathway designed specifically to develop deep bilingual literacy and cultural fluency.

As HQP enters the 2026-27 academic year, we are proud to introduce the educators who bring this vision to life. What sets the pathway apart is the calibre of our people — a team whose qualifications, international experience, and shared commitment to children make this one of the strongest bilingual teaching teams in the region.

Leading the Pathway

HQP is led by Ms Luna Cao, Chinese Principal of the Hanqing Bilingual Pathway. With over eighteen years in international and bilingual education, Luna has dedicated her career to building programmes that bridge Eastern and Western traditions — founding schools, developing bilingual curricula, supporting teachers, and leading educational innovation across China and Thailand. She recently completed her Doctor of Education (EdD), with research focused on collaboration and cultural competency in bilingual schools — work that continues to shape HQP’s approach to bilingual learning. For Luna, bilingual education is about more than two languages: it is about giving children multiple ways of understanding the world, a strong sense of identity, and the confidence to thrive in an interconnected future.

Across Early Years 1, Early Years 2, and Year 1, every classroom is led by a partnership of highly qualified English and Chinese specialists, supported by an exceptional team of teaching assistants. Together, they create a genuinely bilingual learning community — not two language programmes running side by side, but one coherent, connected experience.

Early Years 1 — Where the Journey Begins

Our EY1 team pairs Mr John Sheffield in English with Ms NiNi Li (Li Laoshi, 李老师) in Chinese. John holds a BEd (Hons) in Primary Teaching with a specialism in Mathematics and brings fourteen years of teaching experience in London and Bangkok, where he has taught at Shrewsbury Bangkok City Campus for the past six years. He combines strong subject knowledge with the warmth and patience our youngest learners need as they take their first steps into a bilingual classroom.

NiNi’s background is equally distinctive. She holds dual Bachelor’s degrees in Educational Technology and Communication from universities in China and the United States, a Master’s in Applied Psychology from Renmin University of China — one of the country’s most prestigious institutions — along with Chinese teaching certification and QTS, and more than ten years in international and bilingual schools. Her training in psychology gives her a deep understanding of how young children build confidence and acquire language. Together they give our youngest children a confident, nurturing start built on real expertise in how children learn across two languages.

Early Years 2 — Deepening Language and Independence

In EY2, Mrs Hollie Brewer leads English alongside Ms Bei Yu (Belle, Yu Laoshi, 余老师) in Chinese. Hollie is a British QTS teacher with a BSc from Loughborough University, a PGDE in Primary Education from Bath Spa University, and an NPQ in Leading Teaching, with six years of international experience. Her leadership qualification and primary expertise mean she brings both classroom excellence and a strong sense of how to prepare children for the years ahead.

Belle brings a deep specialism in language itself: a BA in Chinese Language and Literature, a Master’s in Linguistics and Language Acquisition, and a PGDE in Teaching Chinese from Hong Kong, where she taught in international schools for ten years. She is also an IB PYP certified teacher, bringing an internationally recognised inquiry approach to her Chinese teaching. This pairing of British primary leadership and Chinese linguistic expertise helps EY2 children move from early immersion toward genuine bilingual production and independence.

Year 1 — Bridging Early Years and Primary

Year 1 marks an important milestone for HQP, and we have built a three-strong specialist team to lead it. Mr Phil Osborne leads English with eighteen years of international teaching across IB PYP and British curriculum schools. A third-culture, English-Dutch bilingual himself, he holds an LLB and a PGCE with curriculum leadership in Modern Foreign Languages, and serves as a Senior Mental Health Lead — bringing both academic rigour and a genuine understanding of children’s wellbeing to the classroom.

Chinese literacy is led by Ms Daisy Dai (Dai Laoshi, 戴老师), who holds a BA in Chinese Language and Literature, a Master’s in International Education from Framingham State University (USA), and a PGCE from the University of Cumbria (UK), with both Chinese teaching certification and a Thai teaching license and seventeen years of experience across China and Thailand. Her dual training across Chinese and international systems makes her a natural bridge between languages and cultures.

Completing the team, our dedicated Bilingual Mathematics teacher Ms Nicole Xin (Xin Laoshi, 辛老师) holds a Master of Education from Australia and brings eighteen years of teaching across China and Singapore. Her philosophy captures the spirit of the whole team: “If you catch their heart, their mind will follow.” This combination — British curriculum leadership, specialist Chinese literacy, and dedicated bilingual mathematics — allows Year 1 children to use English and Chinese as authentic tools for thinking, explaining, and solving problems across the curriculum.

A Trilingual Teaching Assistant Team

Behind every classroom stands a team of skilled teaching assistants who are central to daily learning, wellbeing, and routine. What makes our TA team exceptional is its linguistic range: many are trilingual, communicating confidently not only in Thai and English but in Chinese as well. This rare combination means children are understood and supported in whichever language they reach for, helping every child feel settled, connected, and ready to learn throughout the day.

One Team, One Shared Belief

Our English, Chinese, and bilingual teachers do not work in isolation. They plan together, reflect together, and collaborate continuously so that children experience a single, integrated curriculum in which both languages reinforce one another. With advanced degrees from leading universities across China, the UK, the US, Australia, and Hong Kong, and decades of combined international experience, the HQP team represents a depth of expertise that few bilingual programmes can match.

More importantly, they share one belief: that every child deserves to be known, challenged, supported, and inspired. We look forward to another year of learning, discovery, and bilingual excellence.
