Mr Simon Aves addresses the challenges of our digital age
Navigating our ever-accelerating digital world is a well-documented, highly-debated topic in today’s society. What are our responsibilities as parents, as educators? How can we empower our children to take the benefits and avoid the pitfalls of technology?
To help answer these questions, City Campus hosted ‘Parenting in a Digital World’, as part of it’s Tea and Topics series for parents. The school was delighted to welcome Mr Simon Aves (Director of ICT) and Mr James Knight (Digital Lead) from Shrewsbury’s Riverside campus to conduct the presentation.
Mr Aves reminded us that we must set boundaries for technology in school and in our homes, whilst still creating rituals that embrace technology in family life.
At City Campus, we regularly encourage our children (and parents!) to limit their screen time, and to continue enjoying experiences through ‘our real eyes’, not just through a screen.
In the Principal’s weekly blog, Ms Dennison laid down a challenge for the City Campus community, to have “a device-free Sunday, to take some quality time as a family and enjoy the real world (with no ‘pings’ interrupting…..).” Parents, let us know how you got on!
