News and pictures from City Campus in February 2019.
Dear Parents and Friends,
I hope you all had a relaxing holiday. It was inspiring to see many families taking out lots of wonderful books from our library for your holiday enjoyment. The habit and enjoyment of reading is the best gift to give your children.
Reflecting back on our short February month in school, I remember lots of colour and excitement throughout the whole time! Especially when we celebrated Chinese New Year festivities topped by a Dragon Dance. There was much fun and active learning during our Africa Week as our Year 1 friends from Riverside joined us for dance, cooking and mask-making workshops.
Meanwhile across in Early Years, there was a real mystery to solve as the children enjoyed investigating who had been in the hub leaving porridge and broken chairs!
It was a great achievement for Shrewsbury International School to win the top ranking at the annual International School Awards, as the best international school in the world for its programme to help students identify and win places at colleges and universities, worldwide. We are very proud of our students and our teachers.
Our new value focus for March is ‘Creativity’; What does it mean to be creative?
There are opportunities to commit to doing something creative, as you interpret this, with your families - is it the through the arts, music, science, drama, design, play, sports, something else? ‘You decide…..’
We are looking forward to our Farm Fest this weekend and hope you and your families and friends will be joining us.
Next week is our ‘Book Week’ in school with many events taking place - we hope to see you there..
Please don’t forget to buy your ticket for the Parent’s Cocktail Evening organised by SP Riverside parents.
Take great care,
Principal, Amanda Dennison
Updates from this month in pictures
Chinese New Year
We had a fantastic time celebrating our first Chinese New Year at Shrewsbury City Campus. We hung lanterns, donned customary Chinese dress, made dumplings and danced with dragons.
Children and parents watched in awe as we were treated to more dragons displays and a traditional Chinese magic performance in our auditorium.
Thank you to our Mandarin department for organising such a fantastic celebration.
Due to popular demand, all our children at Shrewsbury City Campus study Mandarin from Year 1 onwards. To find out more about the language opportunities in our curriculum, please contact email@example.com.
Goldilocks Hook Week in Early Years
Where did the porridge come from? Why is the furniture broken? Who do the footprints belong to? Our children arrived to intriguing scenes at the Early Years Hub, and were tasked with investigating just who had made all the mess.
The children donned their magnifying glasses and clipboards and set about collecting evidence. We measured footprints and wrote our findings.
After solving the mystery, Early Years had a visit from some local police officers. Our children were still buzzing from their discoveries, and they were keen to tell our visitors all about their investigation.
Africa Week in Year 1
African cooking, african dancing and african art - it was all happening for Year 1 during Africa Week. We were delighted to welcome Year 1 children and staff from Shrewsbury Riverside to join us at City Campus.
Thank you to our Year 1 teaching team for organising a fantastic week.

Valentine's Day: We Love Reading
Love is in the air! At Shrewsbury City Campus, we love reading. What better occasion that Valentines Day to celebrate this?
