News and pictures from City Campus in December 2018.
Dear Parents and Friends,
We have certainly got into the Christmas spirit at City Campus with our very first sparkling Christmas tree standing tall; children’s beautiful singing being heard all around the school; Christmas decorations galore and even a special visit from Santa himself!
Our ‘Christmas around the World’ was one of our highlights this month I am sure you will agree. It was wonderful to work together as one big team to celebrate the festivities through song, dance and performance.
The Early Years singing around the Christmas tree was also a real treat and got us all in the festive mood.
We have launched our House teams this week; all the children (Y1 - Y5) know which House team they belong to and this connects our school vertically through the year groups and also across to our Riverside campus where the Houses are, of course, the same. It was wonderful to welcome the Senior School House Captains who came especially to meet the children, introduce themselves and explain about each House.
After a very successful and exciting first term at City Campus we are very much starting to look at the beginning of next year and Term 2.
Our new value focus for January will be ‘Health and Well Being’; a chance to start the new year on a positive note and focus on how we can look after ourselves, both body and mind.
City Campus ‘Open House’ will continue to take place on Fridays.
On Saturday 2 February we will host a farmers market at the school; please put the date in your diary; your friends are warmly invited too.
From all the staff here at City Campus, may we wish you a very Happy Christmas and a fabulous New Year.
We look forward to seeing you all again on 8 January 2019.
Take great care,
Principal, Amanda Dennison
Updates from this month in pictures
Year 2 Comics
Our Year 2 superheroes proudly invited their parents into the classroom to read their very own comics. Parents were delighted with the fantastic work their children had produced. Well done Year 2.
Early Years: Singing Round the Tree
The families of our Early Years children joined us for some festive songs round the Christmas tree. Led by our Music teacher, Ms Bull, our children sang beautifully (as did our parents!) A special thank you to our Year 3 and Year 5 children who confidently led one of the songs.
All the families were invited back to our Early Years hubs for fun, food and games, in celebration of what has been a wonderful term in Early Years at City Campus.
Top Flight Basketball
We are adding Basketball to our You-Time programme! In partnership with Top Flight, Thailand’s leading basketball coaching institution, Shrewsbury City Campus will soon be offering basketball activities after school. More details to follow in the new year.
The team at Top Flight visited us this month to give our children a taste of what to expect from this exciting new club. Our state-of-the-art sports hall has 6 built-in basketball hoops, with plenty of space to develop basketball skills.
Launch of Shrewsbury Houses
We are delighted to announce the launch of Houses at Shrewsbury City Campus. The House system is designed to enhance the sense of community within our school. It also strengthens our links with Shrewsbury Riverside, who share the same Houses.
Our House System provides a framework for participation in a variety of in-school activities, sports, competitions and events across the co-curricular programme.
This month, our City campus students and teachers were assigned to one of our six Houses. Each House is named after a Nobel Peace Prize winner, reflecting both the school’s international nature and the organisational value of Care and Compassion.
Our Shrewsbury House Captains from Riverside Sixth Form visited us at City Campus to tell us more about who our Houses are named after and why, and what it means to to be in a House family.
Students can earn points for their House by participating in various sporting and cultural competitions throughout the year. In the classroom environment, and around the school, students can also gain house points for displaying positive behaviour.
'Christmas Around the World'
One of the highlights of this month, and indeed this term has to be ‘Christmas Around the World’, our very first Christmas show at Shrewsbury City Campus. We were delighted to welcome our parents, local nursery schools and other special guests to our campus to see our children perform.
Our Christmas tree was lit, our campus was beautifully decorated, and Santa Claus himself took time out of his busy schedule to join us for our Christmas celebrations.
During the show, we were taken on a trip round the world in a tuk tuk to learn about how Christmas is celebrated around the globe. All our children from Early Years 2, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 took to the stage to perform wonderful songs and stories to teach us more about traditions in different cultures at Christmas.
We are immensely proud of our students and staff for all the hard work that went on behind-the-scenes to prepare for such a fantastic performance. Merry Christmas everyone!
