Y2 AT HOME

New ways of learning, the arts and mindfulness.

In Year 2, students took part in live Zoom lessons with their class teachers, TAs and language specialists. The children enjoyed showcasing their fabulous learning experiences linked to our topics ‘Flower Power’ and ‘Robots’ in a variety of ways, through Zoom and a range of other online platforms.

Home learning has not stopped the children continuing to learn in creative ways. Our Year 2 teaching team set students a range of daily learning tasks, designed to promote autonomy, develop thinking skills, harness creativity and ignite problem solving and reasoning skills. Alongside the core subjects of Literacy, Maths and Science, the children immersed themselves in other creative tasks, including the Primary EngineerⓇ Competition launched by the school’s D&T department, and various weekly challenges set by the children’s teaching assistants.

Year 2 wowed their teachers with some impressive science experiments, plant diaries, famous artist projects, yoga moves, beautiful singing voices and incredible drama work based on our many class texts. Many memorable learning moments have been made.

During the potentially unsettling time whilst our children were learning at home, mindfulness and wellbeing played an important role in the curriculum. Year 2 teachers ensured that the children were looking after their minds and bodies, and keeping fit, healthy and ready to learn.

Ms Jessica Bell, Year 2 Team Leader shared, “It has been an absolute pleasure us to teach Year 2 in such a unique way this year. We thank each and every one of them (and their parents) for embracing this new way of learning and greeting us every day with a smile.
