STARTING WITH A STARFISH

Principal’s welcome assembly features City Campus’s symbol of kindness.

All students from Year 1 to Year 6 filed excitedly into the school’s auditorium for their first assembly of the 2020-21 academic year. Led by Principal Ms Dennison, the children were introduced to City Campus’s Value of the Month, which is Community.

Students were invited to share their thoughts on what community means to them. As usual, our children wowed us with their ideas of kindness, inclusivity, friendship and problem-solving.

Ms Dennison went on to present her annual telling of the Starfish Story, which has become part of the school’s tradition ever since its opening in August 2018.

Each child that joins us in Early Years 1 at City Campus is presented with a Shrewsbury starfish. This sea animal has become a foundational symbol for the City Campus community, reminding us that small acts of kindness can make a big difference.

This socially distanced gathering was particularly significant for our Year 1 students, who took their seats for their very first Primary School assembly. These children have made their transition from the Early Years Hub to the primary school this year, and will now enjoy weekly assemblies in the school’s main auditorium with the rest of their Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 peers.

The retelling of this familiar parable was given a grand finale, as Ms Dennison cast a special sparkling starfish into our audience of captivated students.
