Our Approach

The Junior School, also called Primary School, at Shrewsbury International School Bangkok City Campus comprises Key Stage 1 (Years 1-2) and Key Stage 2 (Years 3-6). Our learning is based around four core themes:

  • Holistic, Rounded Development: From Key Stage 1 through Key Stage 2 (Years 1-6), we emphasise the academic, social, and emotional growth of each child. Building on the foundations laid in Early Years, we nurture each child’s unique potential, preparing them to thrive and achieve great things.
  • Topic-Based Learning: Our curriculum is delivered through inspiring topics designed to engage children’s creativity and cater to various learning styles. We ensure that learning is both inclusive and challenging, fostering a dynamic educational experience.
  • Child-Led Learning: Recognising that children learn best when they have a say in their education, we incorporate elements of carefully planned play and active participation. This approach allows children to take ownership of their learning journey, with teachers providing guidance to ensure a relevant and engaging curriculum.
  • Partnership with Home: We value close collaboration with parents, keeping them informed and involved in their child’s educational experience. Together, we work to create an enriching and supportive learning environment for every student.

Meet Our Team

Our Curriculum

All students follow a broad, creative, and balanced curriculum across Years 1 to 6. Most subjects are taught by class teachers, with specialist teachers supporting specific areas. Lessons are mainly delivered in mixed-ability classes.

  • Core Subjects:
    • Key Stage 1: Literacy, Mathematics, Science, Computing/Digital Literacy, Art and Design, Humanities (History and Geography)
    • Key Stage 2: Literacy, Mathematics, Science, Computing/Digital Literacy, Art and Design Technology, Humanities (History and Geography), Learning for Life, Drama
  • Specialist Subjects:
    • Key Stage 1- 2 : Thai Language and Culture, Mandarin, Music, Physical Education, Swimming

Our curriculum integrates these subjects within a creative, topic-based framework. Each academic year, students explore 5-8 topics, through which core curriculum objectives are met.
Theme-based learning is designed to be challenging, innovative, and engaging. Each theme is chosen and developed to be meaningful and purposeful, helping students make real-life connections and gain a deeper understanding.

As part of this approach, students often undertake long-term projects that structure their learning. Through these activities, they plan, evaluate, and reflect on their progress. Students are encouraged to collaborate, share information, and draw on their learning experiences from theme-based topics.

Our Facilities

Shrewsbury International School Bangkok City Campus is purposefully designed to support our curriculum and cater to the diverse needs of our children. The classrooms are arranged to allow free movement between indoor and outdoor spaces, encouraging collaboration and exploration across different year groups. Years 1-2 classes are situated in the main classroom block alongside Years 3-6, with each room offering views of and access to outdoor areas, which are integral to the learning environment.

The entire environment is thoughtfully planned and equipped with high-quality resources to enhance the children’s learning. In addition to their classrooms, children have access to specialist learning spaces, including a Food Technology room, a Science Laboratory, and a Digi-Pod, all purpose-built for primary-aged students.

The playground is well-resourced with a variety of physical equipment and natural materials, supporting children’s play and development. This enables them to build important relationships, engage in creative play, develop physical skills, and maintain their independence during break and lunchtime.

Our Pastoral Support

Our school prioritises the well-being of our students, placing their needs and happiness at the core of everything we do. Our teachers take pride in offering personalised pastoral care and building strong partnerships with parents, ensuring that each student receives individual attention. We work hard to cultivate a professional yet caring rapport between students and staff, so every student knows they have trusted adults they can turn to. Each student is supported by a dedicated teacher who oversees their social, emotional, and academic progress throughout their time at school.

Students also have access to our School Listening Team, a group of staff members trained in listening skills, available to support students with their concerns. The team operates in both English and Thai, allowing students to communicate in their preferred language.

For additional support, our Learning Mentor helps students overcome barriers to learning caused by social, emotional, or behavioural issues. In cases of more complex challenges, we collaborate with local services and specialists to ensure comprehensive care.
