Who is your Hero? A workshop with Clive Leach at Shrewsbury Riverside

article Exceptional People Outstanding Opportunities Riverside Senior Riverside Sixth form SHR Article

On Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st January 2025, renowned consultant Clive Leach led inspiring workshops for students and parents at Shrewsbury International School Bangkok Riverside. The sessions focused on building “Psychological Capital” and introduced the HERO model, which highlights four key components:

  1. Hope – Setting goals and envisioning a brighter future.
  2. Efficacy – Building confidence through strengths-based activities.
  3. Resilience – Developing the ability to bounce back from challenges.
  4. Optimism – Maintaining positivity, even in adversity.

Through reflective activities, students identified their top character strengths and explored how traits like hope and positivity enhance success. The sessions also emphasised wellness strategies, such as taking study breaks, staying active and prioritising mental health, to prevent burnout and foster resilience.

One of the questions asked during the sessions was, “Who is your hero?” which compelled people to think about the concept of heroism and the different qualities that make someone a hero like: courage, compassion, resilience and gratitude.

By cultivating psychological capital, students can thrive academically, manage stress effectively and build a foundation for lifelong wellbeing. He explained the evidence-based benefits of building this capital, noting that individuals with higher levels of psychological capital tend to perform better academically and handle stress more effectively.
