For Press (Class of 2013), medicine extends far beyond the clinic. Today, she balances her work as a doctor with a growing online platform that shares trusted health information with audiences around the world. Her journey from Shrewsbury Bangkok to an international medical career reflects both ambition and a passion for helping others.
Fast-Tracking Global Medicine
Press’s path into medicine was anything but conventional. Recognising an opportunity to accelerate her studies, she moved directly from AS Levels into a competitive medical pathway at the University of St Andrews in Scotland, before completing her clinical training at the University of Manchester.
“It was a massive leap from AS Levels straight into university-level medicine,” Press recalls. “It was challenging and fast-paced. Shrewsbury Bangkok prepared me with the well-rounded academic background needed to adapt and thrive.”
From Pandemic Burnout to Digital Impact
After enduring the intense pressures of working as a UK junior doctor during the COVID-19 pandemic, Press looked for a change. Her prestigious British medical degree unlocked a new door to practising in Australia.
The move redefined her career. Blown away by the work-life balance, she started creating content to show other doctors what was possible. What began as a way of sharing her experience soon grew into a platform dedicated to health education, career advice and helping others navigate their own medical journeys.
“In a clinic, I can treat ten patients a day. But with one educational video, I can impact a million people at once. Through content creation, my ability to help people scaled instantly.”
Sparked at Shrewsbury Bangkok Riverside
Looking back, Press traces many of her communication skills to her time at Shrewsbury. She was initially quiet and reserved. One of the defining moments came when she pushed herself to join the First Language English class and later delivered a biology presentation on Neuroplasticity.
“That was the moment I realised I loved to teach,” she says. “I used to be terrified of public speaking. Making videos today feels natural because I’m just teaching a virtual classroom.”
Shrewsbury’s state-of-the-art biology labs also left a permanent mark.
“I still remember my biology teacher demonstrating sterile, non-touch lab techniques. I can still visualise ‘germs’ exactly the way she taught me. Those lessons have stayed with me throughout my medical career.”
Advice for Future Medical Students
Today, Press divides her time between Thailand and Australia while exploring plans for a future healthcare venture aimed at supporting the Thai community abroad. Alongside her professional achievements, she remains passionate about helping the next generation of students considering careers in medicine.
- Align Your Geography: “Study where you want to practice. Every country’s medical system is unique. To save time, align your university choices with where you want your career to live.”
- Fuel Your Own Fire: “Medicine is a lifelong commitment. Do it because you love it, not because someone else wants you to. If you do it for others, you will burn out. If you do it for yourself, the fire never dies.”
A Community for Life
Despite her thriving international career, Press’s heart remains firmly rooted at Shrewsbury International School Bangkok Riverside. Her story is also a reminder of the friendships and connections that continue long after graduation.
“My core group of six best friends are all from Shrewsbury,” Press says warmly. “We still speak every day and navigate life together. No matter where we are in the world, those friendships remain incredibly important to me.”
