As Shrewsbury International School Bangkok Riverside celebrates the achievements of the Class of 2026, families are reflecting on a journey that began many years ago with a single decision: choosing the right school for their child.

Yet when speaking to parents across the cohort, a different story emerges. While the university destinations are impressive, they are not what families talk about first. Instead, they speak about confidence gained, passions discovered, challenges overcome and the remarkable young adults their children have become.

For many families, the greatest success of a Shrewsbury education is not where their children are going next, but who they have become along the way.

A Journey of Growth and Transformation

Across the Class of 2026, parents describe a similar journey: one of growth, self-discovery and transformation. While every student’s path has been unique, many families reflect on how their children developed the confidence, independence and sense of purpose that will guide them long after they leave school.

In-In’s mother has watched her daughter grow from a young child into a confident leader during her 15-year journey at Shrewsbury Bangkok Riverside.

“Since her first day, I’ve seen her grow through opportunities such as the Balloon Debate, the Fairbairn Exhibition, her years as a Music Scholar and later as a House Captain. The confidence she has today is something that has been developed over many years through the opportunities the school provided.”

Similarly, Aira’s mother recalls how her daughter joined the school as a quiet student in Year 4.

Through Shrewsbury’s performing arts programme, she gradually discovered her voice. Beginning with a role in School of Rock, she continued to challenge herself through productions such as We Will Rock You and Shrek the Musical, eventually taking on leading roles and developing the confidence that would shape her future.

“The school helped bring out her full potential,” her mother reflects. “Aira would always come home and tell me, ‘Mum, there are so many opportunities here.'”

For Tresor’s family, the change is measured in independence and maturity.

“Over the years, we have seen him grow into a young gentleman who knows what he wants to pursue and has the confidence to make decisions for himself. Just as importantly, the school has taught him to think about how he can contribute back to society.”

Kin’s parents share a similar perspective.

“The biggest difference is his mindset. He has become more determined, resilient and positive. He has learned not to give up easily and to approach challenges with confidence.”

Medbua’s family has witnessed a similar transformation since she joined Shrewsbury in Year 1. Once a quiet student still finding her voice, she gradually grew into a confident and compassionate leader through opportunities including serving as Executive Prefect of the Community Engagement Ministry, Mandela House Captain, Co-leader of Habitat for Humanity and mentoring younger students as a Netball coach and umpire.

“Shrewsbury has given Medbua a truly holistic education,” her parent reflects. “Not only strong academics, but also the confidence, character and leadership skills that have prepared her for life beyond school.”

For Tresor’s family, the value of the programme lay in its personalised approach.

“What impressed us most was that the team never focused only on top-ranked universities. They helped students understand which universities would be the best fit for them as individuals. That guidance allowed our family to make informed decisions together.”

Parents also praised the team’s strong relationships with universities around the world. Through regular university visits, ongoing conversations with admissions teams and deep knowledge of different institutions, the Higher Education team are able to provide students with informed and relevant guidance throughout the application process.

Kin’s family credits this support as a key factor in helping him secure offers from nine leading US universities, including Stanford University, the University of Pennsylvania, Cornell University, UCLA and the University of Michigan.

“The Higher Education team was incredibly attentive and supportive. We are especially grateful to Mr. Siv, whose guidance throughout the application journey made a real difference to our family.”

For Medbua’s family, the Higher Education team helped her present an authentic picture of who she was, rather than simply trying to create the “perfect applicant.” Through continuous guidance over several years, they helped her bring together her passions for design, leadership, sport and community service into a compelling application, while supporting everything from university selection to personal essays and portfolio development.

“The support was always there whenever she needed it,” her parent shares. “Throughout the entire process, we never felt the need to seek outside consultants because the school’s guidance was already so comprehensive.”

“From the beginning of IGCSE, nobody was left behind. Students studied together, worked on projects together and supported one another through challenges.”

In-In’s mother believes this spirit creates a cycle of encouragement that extends across year groups.

“The school motivates students, and then students inspire one another. I’ve seen In-In support younger students in the same way she was supported herself.”

Medbua’s parent believes one of the greatest strengths of Shrewsbury is the community students build together. Surrounded by friends with different talents and ambitions, she learned that success is something to celebrate collectively rather than compete for.

“They all wanted to do well, but they also wanted each other to do well,” her parent explains. “Being surrounded by friends who cared deeply about their passions made aiming high feel natural. It wasn’t about pressure, it was about inspiring one another to become the best versions of themselves.”

Her experience as Mandela House Captain further reinforced this sense of belonging. Through both successes and challenges, she learned that leadership is about resilience, teamwork, listening to others and bringing people together around a shared purpose.

Combined with close relationships between students and teachers, this culture creates an environment where young people feel confident to explore their interests, take on challenges, and pursue ambitious goals.

The Investment That Matters Most

When reflecting on their Shrewsbury journey, many parents found it difficult to identify a single defining moment. Instead, they described countless moments accumulated over the years: a first performance on stage, a leadership opportunity embraced, a challenge overcome, a passion discovered, a friendship formed and, eventually, a university offer earned.

For Tresor’s parents, the return on investment is reflected in the person their son has become.

Medbua’s parent echoes this sentiment.

“It wasn’t one dramatic moment,” they reflect. “It was seeing her gradually become more independent, take ownership of her decisions, and develop the confidence and maturity to navigate life with purpose. The grades and university offers are important, but what matters even more is the person she has become.”

As one parent beautifully summarises, “If a student gives Shrewsbury their full effort, the school gives something back that you cannot really put on a transcript.”
