How to Apply
Admissions Process
Step 1: Enquiry, School Visit and Campus Selection
Before submitting an application to Riverside or City Campus, we strongly advise all families to contact our admission staff to confirm availability of school places, and to come and visit our school in person.
It is best to visit during school term time so that you can get a real sense of the energy and excitement that characterises a day at Shrewsbury.
Whilst all students complete their Senior School years at Riverside, families with young children have the option of enrolling at either Riverside and City Campus for the child’s primary education, so may well want to visit both campuses before deciding to which campus they would prefer to apply to.
School tours can be arranged via our online forms or calling our admissions staff at each campus.
We are always keen to meet families from all backgrounds to discuss whether a student’s needs and aspirations can be supported at Shrewsbury Bangkok, and where requested, it may be possible to arrange a meeting with one of the relevant school leaders during the visit.
Step 2: Applying to Shrewsbury
Wherever possible, we strongly recommend that applications are made at least 12 months prior to the target start date. This will allow an application to be considered within the main assessment window for the entry into the respective age group, which will take place during the academic year prior to target enrolment. The admissions team will advise on the likely assessment period for each year group.
Subject to availability, the school will continue to accept applications throughout the year, except in Year 10 upwards, where joining part way through IGCSE and A level programmes can only be accommodated in exceptional circumstances.
Before submitting an application, we strongly advise that you contact the admissions team to confirm space availability and (preferably) completed your tour of our campus/es.
Application is made by submission of the application form and supporting documents, which are listed on the application form page. Prior to a full application being made, admissions staff may request that school reports (and learning support plans, if relevant) are submitted for consideration in order to establish a student’s academic credentials and suitability.
For families with children aged 2-10 years, they will need to select which campus (Riverside or City) they would like to apply to. Families are asked to identify on the application form one of the following options:
- application to Riverside only (Junior and Senior)
- application to City Campus only (Junior only continuing to Riverside
after Year 6) - application to both Riverside and City Campus (for equivalent Junior School year group entry)
If indicating that they applying to both campuses, families must identify which campus is their priority campus; this will be the campus at which assessment and interview will be conducted. Where a child applies to both campuses, they must only submit application documents to their preferred campus.
Step 3: Pay the Application Fee
If the application criteria have been otherwise met, the Admissions team will then request payment of the Application Fee (5,000thb per applicant). Admissions staff will share school’s payment details for bank transfer payments to be made at this stage. Receipt of the application fee will allow the application to be formally registered, and for assessment to be arranged.
Step 4: Assessment
Shrewsbury is a selective school. Assessments for each year group are scheduled during the academic year prior to enrolment.
Through the assessment process we seek to understand whether the school represents the ‘right fit’ for a student’s educational and personal progression.
Age-appropriate entrance assessments specifically determine whether a child is ready for transition into their year group. For our youngest applicants, this will focus on their readiness for school, with an increasingly academic focus for entry into older year groups. This may include specific testing in Maths and English proficiency, and for every year group from Year 3 upwards, cognitive tests will be used to determine a student’s ability to analyse and interpret different types of information as would be encountered throughout curriculum learning. Entrance assessments involve an interview element, and for our oldest A level applicants, subject-specific entrance tests will be conducted.
In addition to assessing current academic and linguistic attainment, our procedures also assess the character of the applicant, and their potential to adapt to and thrive in our ambitious learning environment. The process also helps us to identify any support they may need to help them reach their goals, and to understand whether Shrewsbury Bangkok is the right fit for them.
In addition to reviewing school reports, confidential reference information will be sought directly from the applicant’s current or former school or nursery.
Please contact a member of the admissions team to find out more about the assessment process for your child’s own entry year group.
Step 5: The Decision
The application for each child (including information from the application form, assessment results, references and reports from previous schools) will be reviewed by the Principal (City Campus) or the Vice Principal (Riverside) who will make a recommendation to the Principal. The Principal will make the final decision as to whether an offer of enrolment will be made. A member of the Admissions Team will communicate to the family the outcome.
Where an applicant has met the relevant criteria and standards for assessment to be offered a place but none is presently available at the requested campus, the family will be offered a place at the other campus or be placed on the waiting list for the requested campus.
Once an offer is accepted at either campus and the Guaranteed Place Fee is paid, it is not possible to transfer between the two campuses except at the time of transition from City Campus to Riverside at the end of Year 6.
Step 6: Accepting a Place / Enrolment
Where an application results in an offer to enrol at the school, a Letter of Acceptance will be sent together with an Acceptance of Place Form, Medical Insurance information, Guaranteed Place Fee invoice and the School’s Terms and Conditions booklet. (Please note that the School’s Terms and Conditions are amended from time to time and that the latest version is always available on the school’s Parent Portal).
The Acceptance of Place Form must be signed and returned and the Guaranteed Place Fee paid by the dated stated in the Letter of Acceptance. Late submissions may result in the offer being withdrawn and the place being offered to another applicant.
