Senior Programme

You Time! activities are split into three communities: Mind Matters, Lifestyle and Leadership and Finding a Voice. Each community covers a range of activities designed to support the students’ development in the particular area. Each student from the senior school is required to opt for at least one “You-Time!” activity, but no more than three from their assigned Community (dependent on their house):

Mind Matters

These activities will develop an approach in which the Creative Arts are appreciated, an international perspective encouraged, problem-solving skills fostered and thinking nurtured. An example of an activity on offer is Design Technology:  Textiles which prompts the student to learn and explore the world of design technology with the emphasis on textiles like making small stuffed animals and bags. Other examples include French Knitting, Art Master Class and Sewing club.

Lifestyle and Leadership

These activities will develop an understanding of the relationship between a healthy body and a healthy mind, and appreciation of both independence and teamwork, the value of community service and leadership. An example of one of the activities on offer is Fitness Club which helps teach the students to improve their strength, body condition and muscular endurance. They will learn about weight training and how to develop muscle using weights in a safe and secure manner. Other examples of activities include Table Tennis, Badminton and Squash.

Finding a Voice

These activities will develop language skills, foster self-confidence and assurance in articulating points of view and arguments, and nurture listening and speaking skills. An example of one activity is Senior Reading Group which provides the students with opportunities to discuss about the books they have been reading. It is all about finding out what different people like to read and why, and considering new ideas. Other examples of activities include Chess club, Asian Cinema and Save our planet!

By the end of the year all students will have ventured and developed their skills in all three areas and therefore will have developed a broader base of knowledge and achievement in the three communities.
