Curriculum swimming lessons are based around learning the four competitive strokes (front crawl, Back crawl, Breast Stroke and Butterfly) the skills required to complete these strokes effectively (floatation, rotation, balance, buoyancy, aquatic breathing and streamlining) are taught throughout the curriculum lessons along with personal survival and lifesaving skills. Once swimmers have acquired the four competitive strokes additional skills such as water polo, synchronised swimming, diving and duathlon are taught.

The swimming excellence programme at Shrewsbury International School is currently undergoing a massive review and restructure all kick started by the opening of the new competition swimming pool in December 2011.

In December 2010 Shrewsbury International School opened the new swimming pool, an 8 lane 25m competition pool with starting blocks and electronic timing.

In January 2011 our new Director of Aquatics Vicki Gill joined the staff at Shrewsbury International School from the UK. Vicki has a long career in both swimming teaching and coaching and also the education of swimming teachers and lifeguards.

In August 2011 we will begin a new phase in the swimming excellence programme at Shrewsbury International School; swimmers will be selected into squads according to their swimming speed and abilities. Swim meets will be held on a fortnightly basis to enable swimmers to acquire the times required to progress to the next squad, whilst the skills required for the squads must also be demonstrated through regular attendance at training. Further details and new training times will be available here in August.
