PE
The PE department at Shrewsbury International School offers specialist teaching from K1 through to Year 13. The students cover an adapted version of the British National Curriculum, which requires the pupils to develop their skills as a critical performer. This means they must participate in a range of sports and activities as a player, coach, leader, official and via analysis of performance.
Key Stage 3
The curriculum at this point develops a greater focus on developing the critical performer and using the skills learnt at Key Stage One and Two. Year 7 through to 9 develops a greater tactical and strategical awareness of the activities taught, whilst also promoting theoretical aspects of PE. Year 9 is the entry point for the GCSE PE course which will be delivered over three academic years.
Key Stage 4
Year 10 and 11 follow the Syllabus for the Edexcel GCSE PE course. This incorporates work on theory and practical aspects of PE. At the end of the course the majority of the students will either take the Full or Short Course version of the qualification.
Sixth Form
All Year 12 and 13 Students follow a programme of Sport, which extends through to the Sports Excellence Programme. This covers the major sports and some less traditional areas, such as Yoga, Water Polo and Dance.
The Department also runs the Edexcel A level course. This offers students the opportunity to extend their own performance and their theoretical knowledge. It focuses on the factors which help develop elite performance.
