ICT

The ICT curriculum is designed to equip pupils with the skills and knowledge they need to make use of ICT in the wider curriculum and to allow them to become confident and independent users of ICT in the world at large. We aim to create a continuous curriculum that is coherent throughout the Key Stages, with a progression of skills learned, building to a high level of proficiency in all important ICT areas. We see ICT proficiency and expertise as being an essential life skill for all our students.

The ICT department is staffed with 5 full-time specialist teachers. All pupils from year 7 to year 13 are taught by specialist staff. There are six purpose built Computer rooms, offering each pupil their own computer to work on. Internet access is available on all computers.

Key Stage 3

All students receive specialist ICT teaching for between 80 minutes and 2 hours per week.  We rely heavily upon the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.) for software, though we also teach Adobe Photoshop, Corel Draw and control technology using Lego RoboLab. In Year 9 students take the ICDL module exams certificating their competence in the use of applications.

Key Stage 4

Pupils who choose ICT as a GCSE subject will follow the Cambridge IGCSE course.  This is heavily practical, which pupils find very motivating.

Sixth Form

We offer the A and AS level Computing course from CIE.  This is a specialist and technical course offering teaching in programming, currently Java, and theory.
