Drama
A Drama scholar at Shrewsbury International School will have a passion for the World of Theatre and Arts, proven through performing experience and regularly seeing live theatre. It is expected that a Drama scholar will study AS and A Level Drama. They will also fully participate in the Drama Excellence Programme which stages three productions throughout the academic year. The ability to take on leading roles is expected, but they will also be able to demonstrate excellence as an ensemble performer or take a leading role as part of the production team. The candidate will be an exemplary cast member in terms of commitment as well as demonstrate versatile acting skills. A Drama scholar will be encouraged to witness live contemporary theatre wherever possible in whatever language and genre.
Audition process
Candidates will be asked to perform a two-minute monologue of their own choice. They will then be asked questions on their performance and understanding of the performed extract and play text.
The candidates will be required to discuss theatre productions they have seen and the role of theatre in today's society.
A 90-minute written paper on an unseen text will complete the application procedure.
"Being a Drama Scholar in Shrewsbury International School not only allows me to explore my passion for theatre arts on a deeper, intellectual level, but also invokes a sense of purpose in myself.
“Here you are given all the support and encouragement a student of drama can possibly need, and an insight into the world of drama beyond secondary school. It is truly a great honour and great responsibility to be a drama scholar in Shrewsbury."
